As the Port of Rønne grows, it’s not only about more ships, larger areas, and new opportunities. It also means a sea of new maintenance tasks – from stairs and bollards to fenders, sheet piling, and seabed surveys. To meet this need, the Port of Rønne has chosen to implement EG MainManager – becoming the third port in the Nordics to adopt the solution.
From Scattered Knowledge to One Shared System
Pernille Stenberg Niemi, Digital Asset Coordinator, is leading the digitalisation process. She describes how things used to work:
Until now, we haven’t had our tasks gathered in one place. Knowledge has been spread across individuals, and we’ve been doing a bit here and a bit there without necessarily recording what we did, when, and why. That no longer works. Now we need to gather everything in EG MainManager.
Employees at The Centre
Digitalisation is happening step by step – with close involvement from employees.
– We take the task bit by bit. We hold morning meetings where we talk about what’s going to happen, and where employees can contribute with ideas. We’ve put up lists in the workshop so they can write down tasks they think should be added to the system. This way, employees share responsibility and influence over the tasks they’ll soon see on their mobiles, Pernille explains.
The Scale is Enormous
To give a sense of scale, Pernille points to the port’s 35 quays – each with stairs, bollards, and fenders, both above and below water. In addition, annual 3D surveys of the seabed are carried out and must be entered into the system to build a history and track changes over time.
– We expect digitalisation will uncover thousands of small and large tasks that will become part of systematic maintenance plans going forward, she says.

Smarter Use of Time
For Pernille and her colleagues, digitalisation is not just about overview – it’s also about efficiency.
If an employee needs a drawing, he usually calls the deputy manager, who then calls me. When the drawing is in EG MainManager, he can find it himself on his mobile. That saves time for everyone – and I avoid becoming a bottleneck in the work.
She also points out how the system creates a better basis for prioritisation:
– With so many quays, it’s valuable to see which ones are expensive to operate and which are cheaper in relation to revenue. We can also identify manual, repetitive tasks that steal time – and instead prioritise investments to remove them.
Part of a Larger Trend
By choosing EG MainManager, the Port of Rønne joins Aarhus and Oslo, which are already using the solution. Aarhus has used the system for more than 10 years, while Oslo implemented it last year – including both the rental module and the financial management module.
This places Rønne firmly within a Nordic trend: ports that are taking control of maintenance and operations through digitalisation and shared systems.
One Platform, Full Overview
The Port of Rønne will primarily use the operations and maintenance module in EG MainManager. The module is an effective tool for managing information and costs related to operations and maintenance of all assets. It brings together all processes related to operations and maintenance, along with the associated workflows – ensuring everything is documented and systematic.
