Three strong letter combinations: AKSO, EY and EG

Aker Solutions needed a flexible, scalable facility management system

Large players with complex building portfolios can achieve significant benefits from having an efficient maintenance system. Tailored software that provides complete oversight and makes maintenance predictable is essential. Many companies turn to consulting firms for help with procurement processes and implementation support once software has been selected.

EY (Ernst & Young) was engaged by Aker Solutions to assist with consulting services in the design of a detailed requirements specification, where EG MainManager ultimately became the preferred solution.

More than two years have passed, and three of Aker Solutions’ yards in Norway are now well underway with the use of EG MainManager.

An adaptive system

EG MainManager is an adaptive facility management system that can be efficiently tailored to complex buildings. The system makes it easy to follow up on mandatory annual inspections in accordance with regulations, and it provides great value in areas such as maintenance, internal control, and documentation.

EY has been a key driver during the implementation phase. Often the customer has many other daily tasks and is dependent on someone to push the process forward and ensure continuous follow-up.

“We support our clients through both the procurement process and implementation,” says Cecilie Gram-Knutsen at Ernst & Young.

“We facilitate the process, map the supplier market, help define requirements, analyze work processes, and prepare the tender. We set up structures, involve relevant stakeholders, conduct negotiations, and drive the process forward. Our role is to reinforce the client’s capabilities.

When the solution is chosen and implementation begins, we maintain an operational daily dialogue with both the customer and the supplier. We map work processes and assess how the system provider can best support them. We also prepare the training and adapt it to the client’s various roles,” says Gram-Knutsen.

An all-in-one system

It is crucial to have full oversight of buildings and equipment, both for recurring tasks and especially for fire safety. Thousands of square meters of roofs, kilometers of ventilation ducts, and hundreds of doors all require control. A facility management system like EG MainManager can be used to manage, operate, and maintain the building portfolio effectively. It also serves as a repository for documentation.

All in all, Aker Solutions is very satisfied and experiences a good dialogue with both EY and EG. The cooperation with the consultancy has been important. Acting as a driver in the process, EY keeps things organized, ensures deadlines are met, and maintains a pragmatic approach. The psychological aspect has also been addressed—an important factor when motivating people to adopt a new system.

The ability to document safety compliance is also crucial. Aker Solutions must always have control of its buildings, and EG MainManager meets all requirements. Among other things, it is easy to extract lists of materials, machinery, and tools.

EG MainManager meets all requirements

EG MainManager is flexible and best suited for larger building portfolios. One of its advantages is the ability to display all buildings simultaneously. Simply being able to extract a consolidated list of all ventilation filters, for example, is highly useful. It makes price negotiations and new framework agreements with suppliers much easier.

“We have supported Aker Solutions all the way through this process,” says Gram-Knutsen. “Our role is to help our clients stay on course.”
