Through diary cards in CheckWare, patients can daily report on their own mental state, where the reported data can be used in treatment for youth struggling to manage their emotions.
User-friendliness, security, and clinical utility are key points highlighted after the digitization of diary cards, as well as the fact that digitization provides new opportunities to evaluate important progress through summary reports.
About the service
DBT diary cards in CheckWare are a digital version of the treatment method Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which focuses on replacing behaviors that make life difficult with behaviors that help move towards the set goals.
Patients log into CheckWare and record how their day has been using assessments presented as diary cards, with relevant and detailed questions about mood, thoughts, and feelings from the day. The patients' reporting is used to identify behavioral patterns, map problem behaviors, and help patients reflect on how their days have been.
Patients receive daily SMS notifications about new available diary cards, and with a design adapted to mobile devices, they can easily log in and fill out the questions at home on their mobile. This lowers the threshold for completing the diary cards, and patients can do this whenever and wherever they feel safe to note down their thoughts.
Treatment courses in DBT can vary in length, but the main essence of DBT diary cards in CheckWare is to provide patients with a digital tool for routine reporting and a user-friendly flow of questions. For the therapist, this provides clinical utility in the form of regular summary reports sent to the medical record. The therapist can continuously gain insight into the patient's mental state and link it to actions and subsequent treatment.
