Digital user-controlled outpatient clinic for epilepsy patients

Standardized and consistent digital epilepsy follow-up. Digital self-reporting from home with monitoring of responses using the traffic light model provides safer patients and more focus on patients with a genuine need for physical appointments.

About the service

All patients are currently assigned the same survey at the start and then every six months. Patients receive a text message with a link to the survey. The responses are automatically sent to the hospital and are assigned a green, yellow, or red color code.

In case of red (worsening symptoms), the clinician will promptly give feedback to the patient. The patient is then offered a consultation via phone or at the hospital. For yellow, the clinician needs more information and will obtain details about the patient's medical history from the record. The clinician can further evaluate symptom burden and contact the patient if necessary.

If all responses are green, there will be no need for the clinician to contact the patient, who then does not need to attend an appointment. If patients experience changes in disease activity, they can log in anytime and report on their health. These responses will also be color-coded and followed up in the same way as regular reports.

The tool allows us to monitor patients more closely and provide them with better healthcare services without using more resources than before. With regular health information from patients, we can assess the real need for doctor contact.
