ESS – Epworth Sleepiness Scale

The Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) is a brief but reliable self-report tool that people can use to assess how sleepy they feel during the day.

The ESS has been thoroughly tested to ensure it performs well, and it asks people to rate how likely they are to fall asleep or feel sleepy during eight common activities, such as watching TV or reading.

The form is useful because it focuses on everyday situations, and the scores patients receive help categorize the severity of sleep issues, ranging from mild to severe.

The ESS is available in multiple languages, including English, Norwegian, and Swedish.
