Fracture – digital follow-up

Sykehuset Innlandet offers digital follow-up via CheckWare for patients treated for fractures, aiming to reduce unnecessary check-ups and ensure that those who need further follow-up receive it. Patients receive questionnaires via SMS after treatment and at regular intervals, where they report their health status through a secure website. The answers are assessed by healthcare personnel, and if there are signs of insufficient improvement, the patient is called in for outpatient examination and possibly an X-ray.

The service is suitable for patients with access to digital tools and provides increased flexibility for both patients and healthcare personnel. For more complex fractures or challenges during treatment, traditional outpatient follow-up may be necessary. Patients without the possibility for digital follow-up can receive tailored follow-up by phone or physical examination.

About the service

Sykehuset Innlandet offers digital follow-up for patients who have been treated for fractures, aiming to reduce unnecessary check-ups and focus resources on those requiring closer monitoring. After treatment, patients receive an SMS with a link to a questionnaire, usually 1-3 months postoperatively. Patients log in with BankID on a secure website and answer questions about their health status. Additional questionnaires are sent out after 1, 6, and 10 years to monitor long-term progress.

The questionnaires are designed to provide healthcare personnel with detailed information about the patient's recovery and function after treatment. Based on the responses, it is assessed whether the patient has experienced satisfactory improvement or if further follow-up is needed. If the results indicate poorer than expected recovery, the patient will be called in for outpatient examination and possibly an X-ray.

This service is particularly suitable for patients who wish to be active participants in their own follow-up and who have access to the necessary digital tools. Digital follow-up offers flexibility for patients and enables more efficient use of resources for healthcare personnel. For patients with larger or more complex injuries, or where there have been challenges during treatment, the doctor will assess the need for traditional outpatient follow-up regardless of the digital follow-up.

If the patient is unable to use digital follow-up, it is important to inform the department. In such cases, the follow-up can be adapted by phone contact or by arranging a physical examination. This ensures that all patients receive necessary follow-up, regardless of digital prerequisites.
