Have complete control of your tools with EG TraceTool

Bygg- og Anleggsbetong AS is located in Gneisveien in Skedsmokorset. They have chosen EG HoltePortalen as their management system, and to keep track of their tools they use EG TraceTool. Every 14 days they scan all units to check that nothing has gone missing. Andres T. Olsen spends minimal time and is extremely satisfied! They have complete control over their tools with EG TraceTool.
On December 1, 2021, he started the company along with three others. “From day one, we evaluated what management systems to use, and we contacted several,” says Olsen. “We wanted a system with tool control. Holte told us such a system was just around the corner. Despite some months of waiting, EG TraceTool was worth the wait,” he says.
“EG TraceTool has exceeded all expectations. It’s actually fun,” says Olsen. “It’s quick to input tools, it only takes seconds to register them with a photo and serial number. Each unit also gets an internal tool number that we both etch in and put on the sticker. Some of our tools, e.g., concrete vibrators, experience heavy wear and tear and take a lot of beating, and labels can fall off. Sometimes people have been ‘tempted’ to remove labels too. That’s why we double secure ourselves."
"On large construction sites, it’s naturally common for some tools to go missing. But EG TraceTool makes it incredibly much easier to keep track.”
When was the tool last scanned?
“Every 14 days I perform tool control. I inspect our container after work hours, lay out all equipment – scan it – it goes really fast. Then I get a list of all tools with numbers and descriptions. Afterwards, I have a complete overview of what might be missing. Some might be loaned out, some might be in another container. I discover it quickly.”
“Tools will still be vulnerable to theft. Labels can be cut off with a knife. But we double secure ourselves by etching and filing in the serial number as well. I also went to Biltema and bought two blue spray cans – painted all our tools. If I see anyone on the construction site with blue tools who don’t have our logo on their clothes, they’re out of the site.”

EG TraceTool is a dream. I keep recommending it to others. The little time it has taken me to get an overview of everything, I have made back in half a project. I have complete control over where the tools are, who has them, and when I last scanned them,”
Not as tempting to steal tools that are clearly marked
– From time to time, you have to expect encountering criminals, but they will probably think twice when they know there is such good control. It’s not as tempting to steal tools with serial numbers, logos, stickers, and blue paint on them. You don’t get a second-hand price for that kind of stuff.
As of now, Andres has entered around 200 tools. “I scan the codes,” he explains. You can enter as much information as you want about each tool, when it was purchased, and so on. Our tools don’t require service. We use them up and wear them out. But for example, harnesses and fall protection equipment that need inspection once a year, I can set reminders so we get automatic notifications.
Full control in EG HoltePortalen
Bygg- og Anleggsbetong has busy days. They have 13 employees and hire just as many. The four who manage want to work outside as well. Then it’s important that office work goes quickly so they can get back out on the construction site.
They use EG HoltePortalen for time tracking, checklists, documentation, project management, and risk assessment among other things. It works great. “The guys are good at logging hours and taking photos along the way that can be uploaded as quality assurance.”
EG HoltePortalen has truly simplified everyday life
“EG HoltePortalen has really simplified our everyday life when it comes to everything from internal control to HSE work and documentation to FM. And now also tool control. It’s ridiculously easy,”
“The little time it's taken me to get an overview of everything I've made back during half a project. I have complete control over where the tools are. Who has them. When I last scanned them. After I’ve entered the tools into the project, I select a date for the next scan. I register this as a ‘service.’ Then the app will notify me if this doesn’t happen, and I know if something has gone missing.”
“I can only praise EG TraceTool,” says Andres. “Life is busy enough anyway. I don’t bother writing things down in Excel, bringing lists out and ticking off, and wondering if it’s this drill or that one? It’s about choosing what you want to spend your time on at work. Within 30 seconds I can assign one person responsibility for 15-20 tools for a specific project.”
Our site managers are also very happy. It’s easier for us to buy tools when we know people take responsibility and take care of things. The guys appreciate having tools that are ‘theirs.’ It’s no problem investing in something you know you’ll make money on. But buying 15 parts for a project and after three weeks 5 are missing, that’s not how we want it.
