Knee Prosthesis – Digital Follow-up

Sykehuset Innlandet offers digital follow-up via CheckWare for patients who have received a knee prosthesis, aiming to reduce unnecessary check-ups and prioritize those who need closer monitoring. Patients receive questionnaires via SMS before the surgery and at fixed intervals, where they report on their health status through a secure website. If the responses indicate signs of complications or poor recovery, the patient is called in for outpatient examination and, if necessary, an X-ray.

The service is suitable for patients who master Norwegian and have access to digital devices with BankID. It provides increased flexibility for patients and more efficient resource use for healthcare personnel. The surgeon individually assesses whether certain patients with special needs should still have traditional follow-up.

About the service

Sykehuset Innlandet offers digital follow-up for patients who have undergone knee prosthesis surgery, aiming to reduce unnecessary check-ups and focus resources on those who need closer monitoring. This service involves patients receiving SMS with links to questionnaires before the operation, as well as after 6 weeks, 1 year, 6 years, and 10 years. Through a secure website, patients log in with BankID to report on their health status, providing healthcare personnel with valuable insight into the patient’s rehabilitation and the prosthesis’ function over time.

To participate in this digital follow-up, patients must have access to a computer, tablet, or smartphone, be able to log in with electronic ID such as BankID, and master the Norwegian language. If the answers indicate poorer than expected recovery, the patient will be called in for outpatient examination and possibly an X-ray. This ensures that those in need of further follow-up receive necessary help at an early stage.

This service is suitable for patients who wish to actively participate in their own follow-up and who have the necessary technological prerequisites. Digital follow-up provides a flexible solution that can improve the patient’s experience after surgery while allowing healthcare personnel to prioritize resources more efficiently. For patients with complicated surgeries or special challenges, the surgeon will assess the need for additional outpatient controls regardless of the digital follow-up.
