Lahti Energia is a local energy company serving the people of Lahti, providing reliable and convenient energy solutions. The company produces district heating and electricity using local recycled and biofuels, as well as tailored energy solutions for businesses and housing associations.
Zeroni was introduced at the Kymijärvi III power plant in 2020, and is now also used to manage external workforce and ensure compliance with legal obligations at Lahti Energia’s subsidiary, Lahti Energia Sähköverkot. Inductions, access control, site permits, and permits for hazardous work are all managed through Zeroni. Safety Development Engineer Antti Hirsmäki has been closely involved in the implementation.
– Before Zeroni was introduced, contractor employees could wait at the gates for up to half a day to receive their site permits. If required documents—such as employee details or qualifications—were missing, workers could not be allowed on-site. These checks were often only carried out when the employee should already have been working, Hirsmäki explains.
Moving away from multiple systems through centralisation
Hirsmäki also notes that at the time, Lahti Energia was using several different systems, which slowed down operations. There was no system in place for managing workers arriving from abroad, and their data had to be handled manually using Excel, with required documents filed separately.
We wanted to centralise all functions in Zeroni, as the number of contractors and workers in our construction project had grown so large that outdated and fragmented processes were no longer sufficient. We needed a more efficient and reliable way—also from a regulatory perspective—to collect employee data and manage permits. Now all required information is available digitally in one place.
– We chose Zeroni because their experience and extensive list of references within the industrial sector were highly convincing.
A comprehensive solution that simplifies daily site operations
In addition to eliminating the need for multiple systems, Hirsmäki highlights the ability to assign responsibility to both contractors and clients regarding employee data management as one of the key benefits.
In Zeroni, contractors can easily see what information is required for each worker and can upload it in advance, as well as ensure that all necessary inductions are completed.
Hirsmäki describes Zeroni as a comprehensive solution for daily site safety management. The modern interface, strong usability, and system speed are also praised.
– Zeroni has great potential, and I’m happy to recommend the product, Hirsmäki concludes.
