The 9 millionth survey registered in Finnmark

The number of issued CheckWare assessments has now surpassed 9 million. Number 9 million was sent out at Kirkenes Hospital, VPP department in Finnmark, which also had the honor of receiving a cake.

EG CheckWare celebrates every million milestone by sending cake to the clinic where the registration was made. This time, two sweet shipments were actually transported all the way to northern Norway, both to Kirkenes and Alta to mark the occasion.

We had a conversation with the eHealth manager at Finnmark Hospital, Rolf-Ole Frantzen, and an advisor at Klinikk Alta, Robert Kechter, in connection with the celebration. They have been very satisfied with CheckWare since the clinicians indicated that they wanted to use the software back in 2015.

Those who have adopted EG CheckWare will never go back to the paper routine, says Robert Kechter, advisor at Klinikk Alta.

– People are very satisfied and willing to learn to use new, digital forms; this has become attractive. We receive data into DIPS and can analyze the data in a simple way. The excerpts we are presented with make it easier to read through the reports, says Rolf-Ole Frantzen.

An agreement with Finnmark Hospital Trust HF was signed in 2017, a pilot project was launched in 2018, and EG CheckWare was fully implemented through the Helse Nord agreement in the spring of 2020.

Savings and efficiency

Finnmark is large, and there is significant potential to streamline operations when, among other things, the patient's health status can be mapped and appointment times can be more effectively managed.

Another key point is the mail service. Rolf-Ole Frantzen talks about a mail process that can sometimes take a long time back and forth

– The distance makes digital forms especially useful for us. When forms need to be sent back and forth, it often takes a week to reach the patient, then the patients take a few days to fill them out, before the documentation takes a week back to us, says the e-health manager at Finnmark Hospital.

Success with implementation in psychiatry

The use of EG CheckWare in Finnmark today exists within the areas of substance abuse and psychiatry. Now somatics is next in line. EG CheckWare is already used in some departments today and more are coming.

– A major success factor was that the CheckWare setup in psychiatry made it easy for us to roll it out. Key drivers like Robert Kechter have contributed greatly to this going well, Frantzen believes. He explains that such implementations must be anchored both at the management level and in the departments to go as smoothly as this one did.

– We have already started using many forms. With the marking of mapping number 9 million, we become more visible. This increases the likelihood that we can become an even more attractive workplace, he believes.

Kechter says they look forward to rolling out within somatics as well, but are prepared for it to take a little longer than in substance abuse and psychiatry. There are some technical challenges with DIPS and EG CheckWare that must be resolved first.

Everyone committed to sharing

A central element of EG CheckWare's strategy is that customers should become self-sufficient, while also assisting each other with challenges and solutions.

– We have a network internally at Helse Nord. Those involved have contact with other regions. We feel we get the ‘inputs’ we need from others, both regionally and nationally. Everyone is committed to sharing, and the sharing of expertise and knowledge contributes to common professional development, says Robert Kechter.

According to both experts at Finnmark Hospital, they are becoming better at handling simple system setups themselves and creating their own forms that can be sent out via EG CheckWare.

– We want it to become even easier to share across departments, while at the same time becoming more independent. Since it works so well, we also become impatient and want more and more forms. It is very easy to ask EG CheckWare for help anyway; we get quick answers, says Rolf-Ole Frantzen, who is particularly pleased with one aspect regarding the patients:

– Many patients and relatives adopt the digital solutions without major problems, and CheckWare makes it easy for patients to fill out forms.
