Zeroni simplifies the management of external workforce across Metsä Fibre’s mills and projects. Close collaboration with Zeroni began as early as 2014 within Metsä Fibre’s operations. Employees from Botnia Mill Service, who work with external workforce management at Metsä Fibre’s mills, now share their experiences of using Zeroni and the benefits it brings.
Oy Botnia Mill Service Ab (BMS) specialises in maintenance, reliability, installation, and repair services for the forest industry, and is responsible for the comprehensive process maintenance of all Metsä Fibre pulp mills. What began as workforce management for annual maintenance shutdowns has, through years of development, expanded into year-round management of external workforce and combating the grey economy across Metsä Fibre’s sites.
More efficient contractor management
With Zeroni, we can efficiently ensure employees’ right to work, manage site access control and vehicle permits, and monitor that contractors’ compliance documentation is in order,
The introduction of the software has significantly reduced office work, eliminating the need for spreadsheets and paperwork. Contractor management previously involved a great deal of manual data entry, which Zeroni has now streamlined. The platform’s easy-to-use communication tools are also praised.
– Zeroni makes it easy to send targeted emails and text messages—for example, to everyone working in a specific area, or only to supervisors and contract contacts during annual shutdowns. This is a very useful feature that helps us reach the right people quickly, says Marja Piitulainen, Office Assistant at Botnia Mill Service.
Managing supplier data has also become easier with the integration of the Valtti card system. With this update, employee data can be retrieved in Zeroni using the Valtti card number, and access passes can be created using the same identifier.
Moving forward together towards better safety processes
– Zeroni has been very responsive to development ideas, and we’ve seen our suggestions implemented effectively. Most recently, we were able to integrate up-to-date employee safety induction data into the approval process. Now we no longer need to switch between systems to verify whether inductions have been completed, Piitulainen explains.
Aksila and Piitulainen hope that Zeroni will expand into a system used across the entire industry, enabling key partners to benefit from working within the same platform.
– A shared system would also bring significant benefits for suppliers, especially when working within the same site environment, Aksila concludes.
