Göteborg Energi's electricity retail business chose EG on trust, not technology alone

The Swedish electricity retailer Göteborg Energi Din El AB has, following a procurement process, selected EG as the supplier of a new customer information system, CIS.

The system, EG Zynergy, will manage the company's electricity retail business, serving around 200,000 customers and processing roughly 15 million meter readings a day.

The new system replaces an older solution and is part of the company's modernisation of its customer-facing and business-critical IT systems.

The process began in spring 2025, when Göteborg Energi first approached EG in its search for a more modern customer information system. Just over a year later, in early July 2026, the agreement was signed.

The procurement process included a broader market analysis, less detailed control against individual requirements, and solution demonstrations in several stages. Rather than a traditional list of requirements, the parties engaged in an ongoing and iterative dialogue, exploring needs and solutions together. In the end, what tipped the balance was not technology alone.

We're not just procuring a system, we're also entering a long-term partnership. That's something we're really looking forward to

Per Löfgren, Business Developer at Göteborg Energi.

For Göteborg Energi Din El, the electricity retail company within the Göteborg Energi group and Sweden's largest municipally owned energy company, the choice was about more than a system. It was about finding a partner that understood the Swedish electricity retail market inside out.

EG Zynergy is developed for the energy industry and energy companies, and is built for the industry's core processes, including contract management, EDIEL and meter data management, customer installation management, product and pricing management, billing basis and rating logic, invoicing, and accounts receivable. The solution is delivered as a cloud service on Microsoft Azure and includes licensing, support, operations, implementation, and training.

IT security was one of the areas that carried significant weight in the evaluation, as it has become increasingly important for energy companies amid growing requirements and a heightened threat landscape. EG Zynergy is delivered with a security infrastructure and a hosting environment in data centres that at minimum meet Protection Level 3 of the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB), and the solution was assessed to meet the procurement's security requirements. It is an area in which EG consistently performs strongly in tenders and evaluations.

Göteborg Energi will integrate several of its own systems with EG Zynergy, including CRM, customer web portal, My Pages, app, BI, and its master data platform. With open REST APIs, the solution becomes a central part of the company's system landscape rather than a standalone system.

For us, it was about finding a solution that is built for the Swedish energy market and that will last over time. Because it is standardised for our market, we can focus our efforts on developing the business rather than customising the system

Per Löfgren.

For EG, the agreement confirms the company's position in the Nordic energy market.

We are delighted that Göteborg Energi Din El has chosen EG. The agreement is a strong confirmation of our solution, our industry expertise, and our ability to create business value. Throughout the process, we have worked closely with the customer to understand their needs and ambitions, and this has built the trust that forms the foundation for a long-term partnership and for the results we will achieve together in the years ahead

Bjarki Björnsson, Senior Vice President at EG.

The agreement initially runs for four years, with an option for a further eight years, bringing the total potential term to twelve years. Gas retail is included as a separate option. A project phase with EG is now getting under way, and the solution is expected to go live in the latter part of 2027.
