EG acquires two software businesses from Tieto, expanding Nordic leadership in education and public HR & Payroll sector

EG has signed an agreement to acquire two software businesses from Tieto and enters the Swedish and Finnish education markets as well as the Swedish HR & payroll market. The transaction comprises approximately 260 employees and two software businesses with strong market positions across education and public sector HR & payroll in Sweden and Finland, with a combined annual revenue of approximately DKK 278 million.

The acquisition includes Edlevo which provides leading software for school administration across all education levels in Sweden and for preschools in Finland. The acquisition also includes the HR & Payroll business with the products Primula and eCompanion, which provides leading software for HR & payroll administration in the Swedish public sector.

Strategic expansion across core industries

The acquisition supports EG's strategy to deliver the best industry-specific software that helps Nordic private and public organisations solve their tasks more effectively. Here, innovation, trust, and deep domain expertise are critical.

As Nordic public-sector organizations increasingly prioritize their digital sovereignty and locally developed solutions, EG strengthens its position as a leading Nordic software provider with in-depth understanding of regional requirements and values.

This acquisition strengthens our Nordic market position within industry-specific software and marks our entry into the education markets in Sweden and Finland as well as into the HR & payroll market in Sweden. Across both areas, we are acquiring businesses with strong market positions, strong professional expertise and software that is critical to customers' daily operations. Mikkel Bardram, CEO of EG.

The acquired businesses add established software products, long-standing customer relationships, and domain knowledge that expand EG's Nordic software portfolio within the public sector. The software is developed with focus on digital sovereignty and meets stringent requirements for data residency and local hosting that are increasingly important to Nordic public-sector organizations. This includes compliance with requirements such as Swedish data center hosting and locally based operations, ensuring that sensitive public-sector data remains under Nordic control.

Entry into the education markets in Sweden and Finland

Edlevo is the leading school administration system in Sweden, serving more than 200 municipalities and covering all education levels from preschool to adult education, with a growing footprint in Finland.

The acquisition strengthens EG's opportunity ability to deliver comprehensive education software across the Nordics by combining Edlevo's position in Sweden and Finland with EG's existing activities in Norway and Denmark. This makes it possible to better serve customers across preschool, compulsory, and youth education throughout the region. The result is a more comprehensive Nordic education software portfolio, embedded in daily school operations and critical for public education providers.

The software includes AI-enabled smart workflows that automate processes and support increased efficiency for educators and administrators.

"Edlevo's strong market positions in Sweden and Finland, combined with our existing Norwegian and Danish offerings, gives us a unique opportunity to serve the entire Nordic education sector. We look forward to welcoming the Edlevo team and working together to deliver even better innovative software that meets our customers' needs across all school levels," says Steffen Rugtved, Senior Vice President, EG.

Stronger position within public HR & payroll

Primula and eCompanion have a strong and well-established position within HR & payroll administration in Swedish state administration and are used by approximately 150 government agencies and universities as well as a growing number of municipalities.

The acquisition complements EG's existing HR & payroll portfolio in Denmark and extends EG's public-sector HR & payroll capabilities into Sweden supporting a more integrated Nordic offering. The software supports critical public processes and daily operations in public organisations.

The software portfolio includes AI-enabled functions, such as automated staffing assistance, which helps customers handle staff shortages and plan staffing more efficiently.

"Primula and eCompanion bring deep expertise within Swedish public payroll administration and close relationships to public customers. Combined with our experience from the Danish market, we see significant opportunities to serve customers across the Nordics with continued innovation and even better software," says Rasmus Dalby Martinussen, Senior Vice President at EG.

Closing expected in the second quarter of 2026

The transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals, with closing expected in the second quarter of 2026. After the acquisition, EG will integrate the businesses into its common operating model, combining Edlevo’s and HR & Payroll’s domain expertise with EG's global industry-specific software capabilities and resources.

We are pleased to have reached this agreement with EG. As a Nordic company focused on industry-specific software products, we are confident that EG will be a good new home for the product units to be divested. As the units have been operating with great degree of independency within Tieto Indtech, we trust the transition will be smooth and successful for all stakeholders. With this divestment, Tieto Indtech is gaining a more focused portfolio, supporting its growth ambitions”, comments Endre Rangnes, CEO of Tieto.
